MVLA Bay Area Tournament Rules Summary This rules summary is provided to the referees as a service. These are not the official rules of the competition. NO warranty is made that this summary is up to date.
Player Passes
Player and coach passes are required. Acceptable player and coach credentials are current, laminated:
- US Soccer Club player and coach passes
- USYSA (CYSA) passes.
- AYSO passes.
All teams must have in their possession for each player a medical release form. An official team roster is required.
Adults
Coaches are responsible for their supporters. No alcohol.
Player Counts
Guest players are permitted. CYSA guest player or USClub player loan form is required.
- 7v7 -- 4 guest players maximum. 12 players dressed for any game. # Players minimum to start or continue not in rules.
- 9v9 -- 5 guest players maximum. 16 players dressed for any game. # Players minimum to start or continue not in rules.
- 11v11 -- 7 guest players maximum. 18 players dressed for any game. 7 Players minimum to start or continue.
Orthopedic supports
Casts, air splints, metal splints - not permitted, Braces at the discretion of the referee.
Concussion Protocol. Not addressed in rules.
Age Modifications
All 7v7 and 9v9
- No deliberate heading. Award IFK
- KFTM limited to best of 3 not best of 5

Match Length
The length of any game may be shortened to shorter but equal halves if the referee or Tournament Director deems it necessary due to field conditions, weather, or darkness.
Injury time can be added when an injured player cannot be removed from the field. Prelilminary games shall not be extended to affect game start time of subsequent matches.
If more than a quarter of a preliminary game cannot be completed due to a serious injury suspending play, the game shall be determined by kicks from the mark. KNOW who was on the field at the suspension of play!
Preliminary games to end no later than 5 minutes before scheduled start of next match on field.
Half Time
Half time will be five minutes.
Overtime,KFTPM, Winner required
>> SemiFinal Matches
If a semi-final/quarter-final match requiring a winner is tied at the end of regulation play, the game will be decided by kicks from the mark.
>> Championship and Consolation Matches
If a match requiring a winner is tied at the end of regulation play, two 5-minute overtime periods will be played to completion. Golden Goal rule will apply. If the game is still tied at the completion of the overtime periods, the game will be decided by kicks from the mark.
Send offs
Referees complete a sendoff report - see the field marshal. Pass is retained by the field marshal.
Any player, coach, assistant coach, or registered team official who is dismissed, sent off or receives a red card will automatically be suspended from that team's next game in the tournament. At the discretion of the Tournament Director, violent conduct or extreme abuse, dissent, or disrespect ejections may result in suspension from more than one game, up to the remainder of the tournament.
Other
Home team is listed first on the schedule. Home team to wear dark colored jerseys. Home team shall switch if there is a conflict in colors. In consolation and championship matches, the team with the highest number of points of the paired teams will be the home team - if tied the referee/field marshal will flip a coin to determine home team.
